Overview & Highlights

El Gran Toro Mexican Brasserie, located at 118 Broadway in Newburgh, NY, is a vibrant celebration of authentic Mexican cuisine that has quickly become a local favorite. This culinary gem brings a fresh and genuine approach to traditional Mexican dishes, elevating them with bold flavors and meticulous preparation that instantly captivate your palate.

At El Gran Toro, the menu is a masterclass in Mexican flavors, proudly showcasing classic staples with a creative twist. Start with their antojitos like the Empanadas, featuring handmade pastries stuffed with savory chicken or beef, enriched by a garlic-olive sofrito and melted cheese, served alongside a refreshing avocado salsa verde. The Sopes are a must-try: two crispy masa boats topped with refried beans, crema fresca, pico de gallo, cotija cheese, and your choice of protein — a textural delight that balances crunch and creaminess impeccably.

Of course, no visit would be complete without indulging in their tacos, famously showcased during Taco Tuesday when you can mix and match $4 tacos. The quesabirria tacos, lauded by many patrons as some of the best they've ever tasted, burst with tender, juicy fillings encased in perfectly crisped tortillas, dipped in a rich consommé that marries depth and spice flawlessly. Pair these with a side of fresh guacamole—made tableside in a traditional molcajete with cilantro, serrano peppers, and tangy lime—and freshly fried tortilla chips for an unforgettable experience.

The dining atmosphere complements the menu beautifully, exuding a warm, inviting energy with a chill vibe that blends casual comfort with vibrant Mexican flair. Friendly and attentive staff members like Angel elevate the visit, offering personalized recommendations and welcoming hospitality that make you feel right at home. The ambiance is rounded out by a lively soundtrack and a colorful interior, making it just as enjoyable to linger over your meal as it is to savor the food itself.

Guests frequently praise the freshness and authenticity of every ingredient, from pickled jalapeños and carrots crafted in-house to cheese sauces that are ever rich and velvety, enhancing dishes like the indulgent carne asada nachos. Whether dining in or ordering delivery, El Gran Toro maintains a remarkable consistency that keeps customers coming back for more.

It’s easy to see why El Gran Toro is described as a “Mexican Michelin-like passion” right in the heart of Newburgh. From satisfying lunch specials that offer great value to late-night bites that never disappoint, this brasserie truly honors Mexican culinary traditions while delighting modern palates. Whether you’re a devoted local or a curious traveler, El Gran Toro Mexican Brasserie invites you to savor flavor-packed dishes, warm service, and an atmosphere buzzing with genuine joy for great food.

Visitor Testimonials (305)

I have been living in Newburgh for about four years now and I started losing interest in some of the local Mexican restaurants in the area because they lost flavor and authenticity. Thanks to Google Maps I found this restaurant gem, and today is my third time here at El Gran Toro Mexican Brasserie. I cannot believe how delicious is this food and how flavorful everything tastes, their tacos are so fresh and invigorating. Please come visit and try real authentic Mexican food. Starting tomorrow from 12-5PM they will have lunch specials and their Pozole is on point. Thank you Daniel, Miguel and Angel for your awesome hospitality and delicious meals. You guys definitely take me to Mexico after the first bite a huevo que si!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. I have never had a bad meal here; delivery AND dine in. Tonight I dined in and had the oysters which were SO fresh and delicious (next time I will get more than 4) and nachos with carne asada. The nachos are soooo good and their cheese sauce is the best I’ve had on nachos. They also pickle their own jalapeños and carrots in house. So delicious! I’ll be back for more of those oysters asap. Angel my waiter was attentive and so kind as usual, love seeing him when I dine in.

This is absolutely top five Mexican food I’ve ever had. I had never heard of this place and randomly ended up here with zero expectations … I will be here weekly. The quesabirria tacos were perfection. The guac was the best restaurant guac I’ve ever had. The vibe was chill and service was super fast and friendly. Five stars. No notes.

Had a wonderful experience with Angel! He was warm and courteous and recommended us the best dishes! The food was amazing as well! Really fresh chips and salsa, the mushroom ravioli was delicious! Highly recommended this place and definitely ask for Angel!

Angel our waiter was wonderful! Service was great and food was too! Great music as well. Even the cooks were really nice. Our group of 4 were all very happy with our tacos and sopés. Also the yummy chips and guac Would come again for sure!

We came for lunch and got the brisket nachos, shrimp tacos and steak quesadilla. Food was excellent, service was friendly and fast!! I’m so glad we tried this place on a whim today! Will definitely be back.

We ordered: Guacamole and Chips (Freshly made on molcajete stone with cilantro, onion, Serrano peppers and lime juice topped with pico de gallo ,served with tortilla chips). These had a distinctive flavor. The chips were homemade. Huevos Divorciados and Entomatada. Everything was delicious. The waiter was very friendly. It’s a menu unlike other restaurants in the area.

These guys are on some Mexican Michelin like passion right in our back yard… they deserve relentless support for the quality and flavor they provide. And the value of their lunch special burrito or torta is a blessing I hope doesn’t go away. (Comes with some fries or chips) And the atmosphere inside does the rest. Great food, excellent experience. I love all of the menu. Great flavor. Ask questions when you go the menu has unique options in a special type of way. (the torta option you can get in store is drowned in a tomato sauce) tastes amazing… but it’s different.
